Much work is being done a Severn Tunnel Junction, with new track and point sections being assembled to the left of the main lines in this shot.

The new sidings will be to the right of the main lines, behind this FGW HST service headed by 43129.

60024 had charge of the Murco tanks bound for Westerleigh.

The Robeston-Westerleigh tanks has always been a Class 60 turn, 60024 seen here on 21st Jan 2009 passing an FGW HST at Severn Tunnel Junction. By February 2009 class 66s were being seen on this turn.

60024 was one of 20 60s slated for storage on the 28th Jan, one week after this shot was taken. It is now (Feb 2009) in store at St Blazey.

Showing that not everything is gone forever, part of the work being undertaken at STJ is the reinstatement of the formerly closed platform in the background. This will re-open for stopping trains on the new main line towards the Severn Tunnel.

66041 is Eastbound with EWS coal hoppers.

First-built production HST power car no 43002. Back in 1976 this power car entered service as W43002 paired with W43003 as Western Region HST set 253001. Almost 33 years later it is still going strong, albeit in rebuilt form with an MTU engine.

Advenza Freight class 57 no 57005 powers out from the Severn Tunnel.

Delivered as D1831 in May 1965 to D16 (Toton), this loco became 47350 before being rebuilt as 57005. Released to traffic in April 1999 it worked with Freightliner until January 2008 when it was bought by Cotswold Advenza.

57005 heads light engine towards Cardiff.

66585 is hauling loaded coal hoppers through STJ on 21st Jan 2009.

67016 was bringing up the rear of 2U14, 67028 on the front.

67016 is now leading as the same 67s power 2C79, the 14:00 Cardiff-Taunton, 67028 is on the rear.

A nice nostalgic touch is the regional marking on the coaches - here is M6064 which would have been a rare sight in Wales in the 70s/80s.
